Autumn Days…

The trees are still beautiful
The brown and yellow and red leaves
Fall along the same roads I’ve traveled everyday
For as long as I can remember
It still gets cool in December
The glow of embers from the fireplace
Warm the soles of my feet and my soul
I’m still thankful on Thanksgiving
And Christmas still comes on the 25th
The sun still shines through my window
It fills my heart with internal light and reminds me that I’m alive
No, not much has changed at all
Since you’ve been gone…

Hot chocolate and a warm blanket is the best! Especially, with someone you love 🙂

A beautiful presentation – Sort of something one would find themselves saying sitting looking out a window….

    • November 3, 2010 at 10:35 PM

I was actually inspired to write it while driving down a familiar road. So I guess I was looking out a window 🙂 Thanks you for reading it!

I like this the picture painted is clear and I find myself sitting in a park under the trees just thinking

Fall, when the leaves are bright and the air is crisp, seems to freshen my perspective on things.

Nice twist at the end, it really makes the poem. Yes, the world goes on no matter how bad things are for us personally! Well written!

I love how the message of your poem is that (even though you left it unsaid) life goes on. Even in its simplicity, it is inspirational.

Great sensory poem. Reminded me of my own situation here in Salt Lake City, Utah where the seasons have started changing. Great method to tap into the reader…

    • November 5, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Thanks for reading! Fall is my favorite season, I love it. I refuse to let old memories mess it up for me 🙂 You know what, I’ve never been to Utah. That has to go on my bucket list!

  14. November 5, 2010 at 12:53 PM

in my part of the world, there’s no “fall” season as such.. it gets lost between winter and summer.. but I do look to see it signs..! nice Autumn poem..

    beautiful imagery…, warm and pleasant.
    beautifully penned.

THE PASSION IS THERE. AUTUMN MARKS THE TRANSITION FROM SUMMER TO WINTER AND THE BEAUTY OF IT IS THAT “NIGHTS” ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL. IT IS ALSO A TIME TO REFLECT. LOVE THIS

Very poignant. You capture the sense of surrealism of finding the world going on around you when everything inside has changed very well.

Started with seasons fall and then moved on to be the fall of hopes or rather of hopes.. Ending was perfect and kind of poignant. I liked the verse..

Life goes on. I like the way you take stock of it here, and the melancholy appreciation it gives for the world around you when it could be as easy to be blinded by what/who isn’t there instead.
    Very nicely expressed.

I wish I could have an autumn here where I live. It seems so beautiful and bittersweet. Perfect for writing more drabbles. 🙂
    Wonderful read.

Love your name, Chick Under Construction –I always say I’m a work in progress.
I love this poem–I love the seemingly simplistic, beautiful ones.

    • November 12, 2010 at 8:56 AM

Heather, I’m constantly renovating and rebuilding myself too (mind, body, and soul) 🙂 Thanks for reading the poem! I like the simple ones too but I have to be relaxed to write them. If I’m too high strung I’ll write a whole page before I get to the point.

I truly enjoyed this. Reminded me of the warmth at home that overcomes the cold. Cheers!
